DEAR 2011

Dear 2011,

I am happy and sad to see you go. While you brought me the most beautiful gift of my life, my daughter Amelia, you also brought me a lot of pain. I was not prepared to be a mom even though I wanted to be a mom very badly. When Amelia was born I was overwhelmed with love for her and it was hard to deal with being responsible for someone so helpless. The silver lining is I started a blog. At first it was just to write about my passion for fashion but it became something else entirely. Writing gives me a reason to wake up in the morning and be glamorous. When I am frustrated I write about it and then I get tons of responses from moms who have been through the same thing or are going through it right now. It makes me feel better to know that all over the world there are moms just like me who love their children whole heartedly but sometimes get annoyed with the day-to-day tasks of changing diapers, cutting baby nails, and all the hard work it takes to raise a child.

2011, because of this blog I will not look back at you with sadness because the first 3 months of my daughter’s life were the hardest of my life or that I was so sleep deprived I barely remember those months. Instead, I will look at you with pride because I was able to turn a lemon of a situation into lemonade.

Amelia, if you read this when you are older I want you to understand that the hard times I experienced had nothing to do with you or my love for you. I loved you even through my tears and will always love you no matter how many times you poop, pee, or, puke on me.

The Husband, thank you for standing by me even though I yelled at you for basically the first three months of our daughter’s life. A lesser man couldn’t have taken the crazyness. I love you.

Freckles, thank you for always reminding me that sleep, food, long walks, and cuddling with loved ones are the most important things in life and everything else is just noise. Your are the best dog in the world.

To my readers, thank you for supporting my blog. I wake up each morning excited to see if anyone has commented on one of my posts. I love your advice, stories, and empathy. You are all glamorous!

So 2011, I say goodbye to you with fondness and can’t wait to meet 2012!

Happy New Year’s Everyone!

Stay Glamorous,

  1. 2011 was definitely a life changer for me and I found your blog. I am enjoying Miss A’s and your outfit posts and of course your adventures are fun to follow along with. Thanks for being you!

  2. Thank you for every triggered memory from when my children were babies. Things I had totally forgotten. You have made me remember what is important in life. And thank you for the photos you share. They are priceless.

  3. And we love you too Shannon (virtual group hug and high fives girls) and to you girls on here too who remind me that we all have the same issues regardless of wherever we live on this big blue planet. Thank you for creating this blog honey, for you have reminded me daily too ‘stay glamorous’. That has helped me no end while I’ve been training for my MA tournament as sweating in a gi suit is less thqn glam lol. Btw, posted those kangaroo photos for you on twitter honey. Did you see them? xxx

  4. I love you too! You’ve had a tough year, but are the best wife and mother ever. Just imagine how awesome 2012 is going to be. I love you too.

  5. I absolutely love reading your blog Shannon! And the wedding jewelry on your piggies is totally fabulous:-) I hope you saved that pink coke bottle cap! Frame it! I love framing little odds and ends from my travels…I framed a leaf that I picked up during a walk through Paris on my honeymoon…still love looking at it! Love you girl! Xoxo

  6. Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy, prosperous and wonderful New Year. Although I have no children, I really enjoy reading your blog. After all, practical advice is never at loss and I am sharing some of your and your readers tips with my cousins and friends who have little bundles of joy.
Past experiences are the ones that are shaping our beings into the people we are today, and no balance in the world would be stricken if all is only good. I’ve had my own struggles in 2011, went to the brink of almost losing my sanity over my thesis, but now I look with a huge grin on all those mishaps. So, all the best to everyone who stops by and keep spreading faboulosness!

  7. HAPPY NEW YEAR congratulations on your blog I ‘m mum of twins 6 months old.
In France we said ” nous ne naissons pas mère” it means we’re become mother we’re not born with the instructions to be PARENTS later !!! Happily our love for our children make us forget difficulty

    All the best
